Kentaur saddle trees are reinforced with durable iron gullet bars, designed to provide strength while allowing for precise fit adjustments. These gullet bars are both interchangeable and adjustable, enabling fine-tuning to suit the horse’s conformation. Adjustments can be made cold using specialized equipment, within a safe range to maintain structural integrity. Available in five width options—narrow to extra wide—offering versatility across a wide range of horses.
Gullet Bar Sizing Guide
To determine the appropriate gullet bar width, use a wither gauge positioned approximately two fingers behind the horse’s scapula to capture a cross-sectional measurement. The angle formed by the gauge arms will indicate the most suitable gullet width.
Kentaur gullet options correspond to the following angles:
1 (Narrow) – 63°
2 (Medium) – 73°
3 (Medium Wide) – 83°
4 (Wide) – 93°
5 (Extra Wide) – 99°
This method is intended as a general guideline only and should not replace a professional saddle fitting when determining final specifications.
Gullet Bar Length Options
Standard gullet bar length remains consistent across all width sizes, ensuring uniform balance and structure. For horses requiring additional clearance or adjustment, extended gullet bars are available in +1 cm, +2 cm, or +3 cm options. This added flexibility allows for more precise customization to suit individual horse conformation.
U-Shaped Gullet Bar
The Kentaur U-Shaped Gullet Bar is designed for horses with broader withers or sensitivity through the trapezius area. Its widened, more open shape provides additional clearance at the top of the tree—approximately 1.5 cm wider than a standard gullet—reducing pressure and preventing interference with the panels.
Extended in length by 4 cm, it helps distribute pressure more evenly beneath the withers while allowing greater freedom for scapula movement. For more specific fitting requirements, shorter length options are also available to ensure optimal balance and suitability for each horse.
U-Shaped Gullet Bar Identification
U-shaped gullet bars are identified by the letter “U” stamped before the size number (e.g., U2, U3, U4), indicating the wider, more open headplate design.
If a shortened length is selected, it will be marked with “KL” followed by the reduction:
KL -1 (shortened by 1 cm)
KL -2
KL -3
KL -4
These markings ensure clear identification of both width and length specifications for accurate fitting and ordering.
